How to Pick the Best Possible DJ

Updated: Jun 2, 2022

5 Easy Ways to Spot The DJ for your Event

There are so many BAD DJs out there that finding the right one for your wedding day can feel so daunting! You have to compare prices while oftentimes not finding a lot of information about the DJ team online. How do you know their personalities? How do you know if these people are really trustworthy of all the time, money, and value you have put into your wedding day?

When it comes to searching for the right wedding DJ, you can follow these 5 Tips below:

Tip #1 - Google Reviews, DUH 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

People aren't afraid to share the good (OR THE BAD) in the Google review world. If a DJ Group has more than 5-10 bad reviews, then this group is a NO GO. If they don't have a fair share of reviews, then that's also a BAD SIGN.

Tip #2 - ASK YOUR VENUE "WHO DA BEST"? 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️

Often times your venue has a large list of local DJs that they recommend. Sometimes the one at the top isn't necessarily the best. Your venue can tell you who really gets the crowd going and who will really cater to your needs.

Tip #3 - Show Me The Money 💸💸💸

When it comes to money, you have to be VERY VERY CAREFUL. Budget DJs are a budget for a reason. They often times don't have the emcee skills, equipment, or experience. In the midwest (our team is from Columbia, MO), if you are looking for a local DJ, you will probably find a high-quality one for between $1000-$2000. I know it's tough when you see a hot deal, but don't go for low quality to save a buck or two when it's the most important day of your life!

Tip #4 - STALK THE SOCIAL 😅😅

Social media is a great (and at times scary) thing. You can definitely find out who a DJ is through their social media, but not just pictures. Anyone can post pretty pictures, but try to find pictures that highlight the DJs WORK. Is the dance floor look bumping? Do the bride and groom seem happy? Not only that, make sure to look through the comments to see what people have to say about working with this team (do other vendors like this group, or is it crickets in the comments?)

Tip #5 - TRUST YOUR GUT 😋

If you don't feel confident in your gut that this DJ is going to make you feel comfortable and confident, then this person IS NOT RIGHT FOR YOU. At the end of the day, you need to see this DJ as someone you can go to at any moment throughout your wedding day and be set up for success
